Somewhere, Out There

Luke 15:3-5 (NIV)
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders.”

John 10:14 (NIV)
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”

Tonight, my wife, my 2 boys and I sat before the TV as we watched ‘An American Tail’, an animated film released in November 1986. Let me share with you the key points that are applicable to my story here.

It was about a little mouse named Fievel. He and his family emigrated from Russia to America. On their way to the land of freedom, Fievel got lost and had to find his family.

During his search, when he heard familiar violin music, he would come to think that it was his Papa playing the instrument. Without hesitation, this little mouse would start to trace the sound as a way to locate his family. Days after days, he finally lost hope as his family was nowhere to be found. However, the very moment his Papa shouted his name, Fievel heard it and turned his head in that direction and saw that his Papa was rushing to him. They both then embraced each other. What a touching story that always warms my soul!

When we get lost, there is one thing that our ears will need to be attentive to: Jesus’ voice. Listen to His tender and loving voice, and follow it to find our way back to the Light. He will embrace us in His arms.

Somewhere, out there, God is watching over us.
