When I was a little boy, I always longed to have a toy tank. There was a toy shop near where I lived. Every time I stopped by, I stepped in and browsed all the tanks on the display racks.
One day, a new tank grabbed my attention. I wanted it, but my parents refused to buy it for me. Of course, I was disappointed. The next time I went to the shop, the tank was gone. I was upset.
Recently, I took my boys to ToysRUs. Ah, I saw a remote control tank. What did I do? I bought it and played with my kids. Now it’s on my bookshelf because I treat it as my treasure.
Oftentimes, when we want something to satisfy our desires, we don’t want to wait. We want it now. But is it God’s will for us to have it in our own time? He may give it to us right away, say no, or want us to wait until His purpose in our lives has been fulfilled.
Waiting on the Lord is essential to our Christian walk, for it will help us grow in our faith and produce spiritual fruits such as perseverance and endurance. Once the Lord has granted us our desires, we will be joyful like a little kid jumping around.
Psalm 27:14 – Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
