I grew up in Hong Kong, but I had never paid attention to this until my trip there this past July. I noticed that one person would not hold a door for other persons entering or exiting a building. Perhaps that was their culture.
Every time I entered or left a building or a shopping mall, I kept the door open with my hand for those coming to the entrance. On one occasion, as I was holding a door for a lady, she returned a ‘Thank you.’ Of course, I said to her ‘You’re welcome.’ On another occasion, I was doing the same thing for a girl, but she lowered her head with a shy face as though she did not know what to do or how to react. I waited for her to come although she walked slowly.
Our Lord Jesus Christ still keeps His Door open for all those who have not entered His House. Don’t be shy, but react positively and enter, and He will welcome you.
The Bible verse below does not exactly describe what I have mentioned above, but it still serves the purpose of telling us about the Love of God.
Matthew 7:7 (NIV) says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”
Interesting culture in Hong Kong. So happy you were able to return there. God bless your seeds that you planted.
My son gets irritated with me if I try to exit his vehicle before he comes to open the door! I’m proud of him. Courtesy is an expression of kindness and compassion. Yes, Jesus keeps the door open!
