In the summer, we always want to consume ice-cold drinks. During our Hong Kong visit, my wife and I seized the chance to order a special drink Red Bean Ice at a cha chaan teng (literally means Chinese tea diner).
Red Bean Ice is made of azuki beans, rock sugar and milk. Of course, shaved ice pieces are added to the drink to make it cold. A sip can taste of its sweetness and help cool us down.
It is very easy to make. Boil a bag of red beans and cook for about an hour or 1½ hours. Then add rock sugar to your taste and drain the cooked beans. Fill 1/3 or ½ of a tall glass with beans, and add shaved ice and milk. Enjoy.
Sounds delicious!
