Knowing You

October 9, 2011

Philippians 3:7 (NIV)
“But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.”

Pursuing worldly success was once my ambition rooted down deep in my heart. I longed for wealth and fame for my own sake. During my career in the past, I constantly demanded promotions, promotions and promotions as I thought corporate success would make me happy. But I felt the emptiness of my heart as I held onto my own dream, for my ambition only made my soul thirstier and thirstier.

On my journey with the Lord, I struggled and struggled. In the end, He gave me a new direction in my life as He sanctified me. Jesus indeed set me free; I am no longer bound by my own self-seeking ambition. Rather, serving Him is now the desire of my heart; what I had once held dear is not of importance to me.

Last week, my manager talked to me about my potential promotion. However, I found myself not thinking about it or not asking God to give it to me, for I have learned to be content with what I have. If my promotion comes, I will be happy to receive it, but if it does not come, it is not meant for me to have it.

I have been asking God to grant me an opportunity to serve Him. Today, I had a meeting with the director of multi-cultural ministries at my church and talked with him about myself and asked him where I could help. I was excited when he told me that he would like me to be a blog contributor for the Chinese group. Through my articles that will be posted on the blog, I pray that many Chinese Christians may find my writings inspirational and encouraging, and that many Chinese non-believers may be touched by my testimonies and may accept Christ.

Have you ever heard the hymn ‘Knowing You (All I once Held Dear)’? This song always moves me to tears as it reminds me of how God transformed me from a self-centered person to a man who now has a heart to serve Him and others.

What is the thing that you have held dear but it has never filled the hole in your heart? Let go and come to Jesus, and you will taste of His transforming power.

Somewhere, Out There

October 9, 2011

Luke 15:3-5 (NIV)
Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?
And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders.”

John 10:14 (NIV)
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me.”

Tonight, my wife, my 2 boys and I sat before the TV as we watched ‘An American Tail’, an animated film released in November 1986. Let me share with you the key points that are applicable to my story here.

It was about a little mouse named Fievel. He and his family emigrated from Russia to America. On their way to the land of freedom, Fievel got lost and had to find his family.

During his search, when he heard familiar violin music, he would come to think that it was his Papa playing the instrument. Without hesitation, this little mouse would start to trace the sound as a way to locate his family. Days after days, he finally lost hope as his family was nowhere to be found. However, the very moment his Papa shouted his name, Fievel heard it and turned his head in that direction and saw that his Papa was rushing to him. They both then embraced each other. What a touching story that always warms my soul!

When we get lost, there is one thing that our ears will need to be attentive to: Jesus’ voice. Listen to His tender and loving voice, and follow it to find our way back to the Light. He will embrace us in His arms.

Somewhere, out there, God is watching over us.

Morning

October 4, 2011
Morning
Morning
My eyes open;
Morning has broken.

Another dreadful day
At the workplace?
I want no more;
I want no more.

But my heart turns to the Lord;
Thanks Him for a new day.
On my face
A smile after all.

I like the hymn “Morning Has Broken” as
it reminds me of God’s blessings.

The God who avenges

October 4, 2011

Furious and resentful.
Where is justice?
I cry.

Let Me avenge,
Says the Lord.

Move on with my life;
Wait for God’s glory to shine.

The wicked will be no more;
Into their own pit they will fall.

Psalm 94 (NIV) “O LORD, the God who avenges,  O God who avenges, shine forth.”

The Lord is my Shepherd

October 3, 2011

Wherever He leads,
I follow;
For His guidance is loving and caring.

Whatever He gives,
I receive;
For His provision is best and abundant.

Psalm 23:1 – The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

Friendship in Writings

October 2, 2011

I am so happy that I have met new Christian friends through writer community such as FaithWriters or through other connections.

I pray that through our network we can all support and encourage one another.

Let us continue to write in a way that we can honor the Lord and that others may experience the Love of Christ.

Amen.

In Christ,
Dicky
